A Christmas Poem for Republicans
'Twas the night before Christmas in 2009;
Barak and his minions were feeling quite fine.
With Reid’s and Pelosi’s genetic myopia,
It looked like a shoo-in for socialist utopia.

Settling in for the night, stockings hung up with care,
They grinned at the thoughts of gifts Santa would bear:
No more private health-care, just government-run,
And cap-and-tax goodies, forced unions – what fun!

Bill Ritter and cronies, out here in the west
Had gift-visions, too in their Democrat quest:
More “fees” and more taxes, the gutting of Tabor,
And Mary Malarky to bless all their labor.

Mean-while, at the North Pole, St Nick yelled, “Let’s go!”
And reindeer with Rudolph flew up through the snow.
Old Santa he smiled as he raced through the air:
The gifts for this year he had planned with great care.

It was probably one in the morning – or two,
When I woke with a start. “What’s that noise?” Then I knew.
I crept down the stairs, saw the jolly old elf,
Had to laugh when I saw him, in spite of myself.

He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
It was then that he saw me. He leaned close and said,
“Don’t worry this Christmas! There’s nothing to dread.
See, the Dems, they’re expecting such great things from me.
But I’m dyed-in-the-wool, through-and-through GOP!”

With great thanks to Patty McCoy for creating the poem -
and to Dick Wadhams for his excellent recitation at the holiday party!
