An Outlook on the 2008 Elections: The Republican Challenge
Guest Speakers:
Political Commentator
Katy Atkinson
Pollster & Political Analyst
Floyd Ciruli
What’s in store for Republicans in 2008?
For the 1st time in decades, the Democrats control the state legislature, one of our U.S. Senate seats and the Governor’s mansion. Record turnout is expected for the highly contested presidential race. The open U.S. Senate seat looks like a toss-up. Add to that expected initiatives or referenda.
A provocative insight into the 2008 political scene!

Guest speakers:
Dr. Carl Bonnett
Major CO Army National Guard · Deployed Iraq 2003, Afghanistan 2007
CPT Charles Zakhem

The conflict in Afghanistan is fundamentally different from that in Iraq. What factors are at play in the Middle East? What are the economic ramifications of a widespread conflict? Can we be optimistic about what we are accomplishing in Afghanistan or in Iraq? What are the challenges our forces face?
An interesting discussion with 2 true patriotic heroes!

Judges in America are under siege. The 2006 mid-term elections included proposals to fire, impeach, recall or even jail judges. What is the true role and relevance of courts in our lives? How do we improve the American legal system, restore confidence and dispel the growing public cynicism?
A lively discussion on the effectiveness of our courts.

Homeless, but not Helpless, in Colorado
Guest Speaker: Bob Coté
Founder Step 13, a Transitional Living Program for the Homeless
“Want to get someone off the street? Sober him up, clean him up and put him to work. Any system or program that takes responsibility away from a capable person dehumanizes them. Step 13 is recognized not only because of its success in rehabilitating addicted homeless, but because they do it without government funding. A lively discussion on “real change, not spare change”.

June 2007 Denver

Impact of Gangs
Guest Speaker: Reverend Leon Kelly
Exec Director, Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives
Is the multi-billion $ drug trade increasing lethal gang activity in the metro area? Consider the recent gang-style slaying of Bronco player Darrent Williams.Consider that in April, 53 gang members were arrested & more than $1M cash, along with firearms & drugs were confiscated.  Rev. Kelly has worked tirelessly as an advocate to at-risk youth, helping them find alternatives to violence and gang related activities. A lively discussion of the problem & solution.
